About RRB (Railway recruitment board) Exams

Ministry of Railways under Government of India organizes and operates Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB). Currently there are 19 Railway recruiting boards, which recruit directly or through competitive examinations every year.

Railway Recruitment Posts

  • Group 'A' Posts – Recruitment for group A posts is carried out by UPSC through Civil Service Exam, Engineering Service Exam, and Combined Medical Service Examination.
  • Group 'B' Posts – Group B posts are not opened directly. These type of posts are filled through departmental up gradation from Group C employees or filled up deputation basis.
  • Group 'C' Posts - Technical and Non-Technical cadre posts like Station Master, Clerk,  Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Engineering posts (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunication) etc.
  • Group 'D' Posts - These posts in various disciplines include Safaiwala, Gunman, Trackman, Helper, Assistant Points Man, Peon etc.

Group C & D Qualifications : Minimum 10th class pass or ITI or equivalent trade.

  • For Technicians
    • Single Stage Written Examination
    • Verification of Original Documents

Syllabus for written examination
The questions will be objective type with multiple choice and are likely to include questions pertaining to General Awareness, Arithmetic, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science and Technical Ability. The question paper will be in English, Hindi, Urdu and local language. Duration of the examination will be 90 minutes with approximately 100 to 120 questions. There shall be negative marking and marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer @1/3 of marks allotted for each question
